do88 Porsche 911 Carrera / S / GTS / Turbo (992) Plenum

Upon launching the 992 generation, Porsche abandoned the naturally aspirated engine for the Carrera models entirely, from now on, all 911s are turbocharged. There are a few differences between the Carrera and Turbo models, displacement being the most obvious, but they also share a lot of components, the plenum is one of them. Throughout the entire development of the 992 products, do88 had unlimited in-house access to a 992, testing theories, prototypes, and 3D-prints without hurdles or delays.

Starting from a comprehensive 3D-scan of the engine bay to establish structural limitations, do88 drew on experience from previous Porsche plenum projects and quickly realised the need for a Y-joint design rather than the T-shaped OE plenum. From an airflow perspective, the Y-shape is genuinely more efficient, distributing air more evenly and with less pressure drop. do88 chose to manufacture the plenum from cast aluminium, since casting allows for shapes that CNC-machining simply cannot replicate, and as do88 puts it, function always conquers form, maximum airflow supersedes the bling factor. The plenum is designed with soft, sweeping lines, with radiuses and angles revised and reworked many times over, connections are CNC-machined, and the plenum comes with suiting silicone hoses for optimum fitment and durability.

The improvement is verified using both CFD (Computational Flow Dynamics) and do88's own Superflow SF1020 flow bench: 846 CFM versus 808 CFM stock at 0.1 bar/1.45psi pressure drop, a genuine 5% higher airflow. Removing restrictions for the turbocharged air reaching the inlet delivers better throttle response and performance gains across the entire powerband.
