do88 BMW B58 Gen 1 (M140I/M240I/340I/440I) Intake System

Filtration, airflow, and heat are the key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine. A genuine design challenge for the B58 Gen 1 is location, the intake sits right next to the exhaust manifold, which rapidly heat soaks this position in the engine bay. High air intake temperatures are genuinely bad for engine performance, since the turbo has to build boost using hot, less dense air, making a fully sealed intake system the only way to keep IATs to a minimum.

To eliminate hot air being drawn into the air filter, do88 designed a heat shield and lid that, together with rubber seals, feed the engine with genuinely cold air. The system uses a large custom-designed air filter with densely knitted cotton gauze for superior filtration, washable and reusable for long-term service life. Engineered specifically to support high power outputs, this intake is built with headroom for tuned and modified applications, not just stock replacement.
